For generations, Saint-François has lived from fishing and agricultural activities, now she develops and modernizes.
The restoration of the city center, the development of sporting and cultural facilities, the organization and planning of new economic and industrial areas made Saint-François a leading municipality in Guadeloupe with a new focus of activity: tourism.
| Saint-François has a harbour sheltering fisherboats as well as yachts. The great number of fishermen produces nearly 15,000 tons per year of fish and crustaceans. To them the sea is more than a source of income, it is a form of worship, celebrated every year in April: "Days of the fish and the sea" and in August: "Days of the fishermen". Two events to the glory of the sea, where locals and tourists meet in fraternal atmosphere. |

In the past focused on sugar cane farming, the planters were forced to diversify and modernize their plantations.
But Saint-François preserved her windmills, essential patrimony in the beautiful landscape. The traditional competitions of ox-kart pulling are also handed down to the young generations who participate with always the same passion. |
| Beautiful beaches, a casino, an international golf course, an airport, a marina, luxury hotels, vacation villages and a great number of B&B and "gîtes" welcome every year more than 100,000 foreign and Guadeloupean visitors. |
Fishermens' Day |
All the year, in the city center as well as in the other districts, festivals, parades, dancings and celebrations follow each other. Locals and tourists participate showing the same enthusiasm ! |
